“God will put his angels in charge of you, to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands to keep you from hurting your feet on the stones” ~ Psalm 91: 11-12

Throughout scripture, we come across various times when God sent forth His angels to help men. One might wonder why men had angels assigned to help in fulfilling our assignments here on earth. But before we go further, the first question to be answered is, who are angels?

The word “angel” we know today is derived from the Hebrew word “mal’ak,” which means “messenger.” In other words, angels can be regarded as messengers of the Lord (Psalm 103:20). That is why, in various parts of the Bible, we see them being used by God in various manners to convey His messages to men.

Take, for instance, Genesis 16:7-11, where the Angel of the Lord speaks to Hagar, instructing her on what to do and delivering the words of the Lord. Similarly, in the case of Mary and Joseph, various chapters in the book of Matthew describe how the Angel of the Lord appeared to them, passing forth instructions and messages from the Lord.

What is angelic help?

Angelic help can come in various forms and manners. It is usually God’s way of helping men out of difficult circumstances, bringing them direction, peace, and support when in need. It is the supernatural interfering with the natural to change the outcome of things or events. For example, when an angel appeared to Joseph in Matthew 2:13, the angel brought a message that helped them escape the claws of Herod. If they had not received that intelligence from God through His messenger, baby Jesus would most likely have been killed even before He could achieve the will of God.

Angels are the messengers of God, used by Him to help His sons and daughters here on earth in the face of trouble.
