“Looking up to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”- Hebrews 12:2
For those of us who drive and drive well, how possible is it to drive forward while looking behind? The answer is quite simple: it is impossible to drive forward with your gaze fixed on whatever is happening behind you. Anyone who attempts this will undoubtedly cause an accident, which could lead to the destruction of the car and even loss of life.
Now, with this illustration in mind, let us evaluate our Christian journey thus far. Think of the car as the steps you are taking, your life itself. Looking forward means looking at Jesus—our goal, the one we are striving to be like.
Looking backward symbolises our past life and all the wrongs we used to engage in before Christ. If, while driving, you decide to take your gaze off the road ahead—Jesus—and look back at your past life, you already know what the outcome will be.
Many times, we find ourselves in such circumstances, but we need to remember that our gaze should be fixed on Jesus. He alone! Because only by focusing on Him can we be assured that we will reach our destination—eternity with Christ.
Prayer Point: Dear God, may I always look up to you – the author and the finisher of my faith. Amen.
