“Therefore, if anyone be in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away and behold the new has come.”~ 2 Corinthians 5:17
When fighting the desires of the flesh, it is important we fight from a place of understanding. We are not mortifying the flesh just because we were asked to. Neither are we doing it just because we feel like.
However, it is an afterward effect of what happens after we accept Christ.
So let’s take for example, you pick a piece of dirty clothing, and then you wash it to become clean. Would it make sense to then pick up the piece of neat clothing to put into the mud?
Of course not! Reason being that putting the neat cloth back in the mud will be a waste of time and effort washing it to make it clean.
In the same way, we as well have been washed and made clean. It makes no sense to then be put back into the mud. Which is why we need to fight the flesh (whose only goal is to put us back in the mud).
Fighting the flesh with this understanding, explains better why we do what we do.
We are now new creations, with old things passed away.
In this new reality of ours, it is only wise that we fight the necessary fight to avoid being put back in the mud.
Prayer: Lord, I bless you for the gift of a new life, and I ask that you please help me on this journey of mortifying the flesh.
