STANDING ON GOD’S PROMISES- HOLDING ON TO HIS WORDS

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” ~ Hebrews 10:23

Have you ever experienced someone promising you something you really wanted, and that individual actually kept their promise? How did you feel? Most likely elated and excited, right? If the same person comes again at another time and gives you another promise, chances are high that you would hold onto it. Why? Because you now trust that he or she will keep their word.

So, why do we still doubt God when He gives us certain promises? The fact that you are alive to read this devotional is a clear sign that God has kept His promise to protect and shield you from all evil (Psalm 121). If He has been faithful in your life, keeping you safe from every attack of the enemy, then you should trust that He will be faithful to fulfill whatever promises He has made to you.

Our verse for today reminds us to hold fast to the confessions of our hope without wavering. The promises God has given you are your confessions of hope—He who has promised is faithful to keep His word.

We can learn a valuable lesson from the Israelites. Despite all the mighty things God did to rescue them from Egypt—the plagues that came upon the Egyptians, the parting of the Red Sea, and their crossing on dry land, where the chariots and armies following them drowned— they exhibited such little faith. They complained and even made gods for themselves, despite the manna He provided daily and the many signs and wonders they witnessed.

The end result was clear: they angered God time and again, and their entire generation did not see the Promised Land. Sometimes, our lack of faith and doubt in God can hinder us from receiving what He has promised. Knowing His nature now, we can confidently trust Him—if He says a thing, it will come to pass.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust You blindly. Remind me of all the times You have come through for me, so my faith may be strengthened to hold onto Your promises.
