“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’”~ 1 Samuel 16:7
Samuel is just like everyone of us, as humans we unknowingly judge people based off their appearance. Samuel was sent out to appoint a new king, and on getting to the house of Jesse, he had seen David’s elder brothers, and immediately assumed they were the right fit to rule Israel. Especially because they looked the part. However, in the eyes of God all of them were rejected except David. As only David had the kind of heart that God wanted.
The very interesting fact when it concerns being a christain and serving God, is how no man can fake service and worship. You can fake your service and worship to your fellow men but never to God. For God sees beyond the human eyes. This means that He knows what you do at all times; in the secret and open.
He knows those who are for Him and those who are against Him. No wonder the scripture says that on the last day, many will say they called upon His name, and in His name they cast out demons, but He will say He knew them not.
Us humans do not have the capacity to look inward at the heart, we judge many times by what we see in the physical. But God sees beyond every mask, performance, or presentation. This fact is more reason why we need to learn to live honestly before Him today. Choose transparency over pretense. When your heart aligns with God, your life becomes a vessel He delights to use. Why pretend when the Lord sees it all?
Prayer: Father please help me serve you genuinely. That I be a man after your own heart.
