“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning”– James 1:17

Growing up in church, there’s a phrase many of us have heard time and time again: God is good all the time. As familiar as it may be, it holds a truth that is both profound and unchanging: God is good.

Regardless of our circumstances, His goodness remains constant. Whether we are in seasons of abundance or scarcity, clarity or confusion, God’s goodness does not waver. It is not tied to our internal feelings or external situations—it is rooted in His unchanging nature and declared in His Word.

To truly understand the goodness of God, we must fix our gaze on His finished work on the cross. We remind ourselves of what He has already done for us:
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

What greater display of goodness and love could there be? Let this truth resonate in your heart: If God did not withhold His very life for you and me, what else would He not graciously do for us?

As you reflect on His goodness, consider this: The year may not have unfolded as you hoped. Challenges and setbacks may have come your way. Yet, God’s goodness transcends our expectations. His definition of goodness is far higher and deeper than ours.

James 1:17 reminds us: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” God’s goodness is eternal and unchanging. He is not like man, who falters or wavers. His faithfulness endures forever.

Prayer Point: Thank You, Jesus, for Always being good to us. May we continually fix our eyes on Your goodness, rather than the problems around us. Help us to trust in Your unchanging nature. Amen.
