“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” ~ Numbers 23:19
Throughout our lives, we have encountered men and women who have disappointed us in various ways. In the context of our discussion today, it’s evident that we have, at one time or another, come across people who do not keep their words or promises. At times, we have also found ourselves in the position of failing to uphold our own promises.
This isn’t meant to call anyone out; rather, it reflects our nature as human beings—weak and imperfect. This is why we continually seek the help of the Holy Spirit.
At different stages in life, we inevitably face a variety of challenges—some anticipated and many unexpected. During such seasons, when it feels like there is no way out of our circumstances, the confidence we possess as Christians rests in the God we serve.
Having been adopted into the Kingdom of God, we are now sons and heirs (Romans 8:16-17), which grants us certain benefits, one of which is the Word of God.
You might wonder: what benefit is there in the Word of God? Our anchor scripture reassures us that we can depend on God and His promises—He is not a man that He should lie. Our God is incapable of deceit or breaking His promises, giving us the assurance that when He speaks, it will come to pass.
This is why it is essential that when we face life’s challenges, we seek the face of God for guidance and a word concerning our situation. Once we receive a word from Him, we can rest assured that whatever He says is settled.
Why? Because He is reliable, and He is not a God who lies.
Prayer: Lord, please give me a word for the season I am currently in, and help me to trust You, holding on to Your Word throughout this journey.
