STANDING ON HIS PROMISES- THE NATURE OF GOD’S WORDS

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” ~ Isaiah 55:10-11

To gain more confidence in God and His words, it is crucial to understand the nature of God’s words. To do this, we must look through the scriptures for literal and practical examples of His words and their nature.

Let’s start with Abraham, a man who was old and without a child. His wife, Sarah, was well past the age of giving birth. In fact, she had concluded that there was no hope for her anymore, leading her to offer Hagar, her maid, to her husband to conceive a child for him, which she did.

However, one thing we see is that God had given Abraham a promise in Genesis 15:4-5:“And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, ‘This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.’ Then He brought him outside and said, ‘Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’”

Though it took roughly 25 years before Isaac, his promised child, came forth (Genesis 21:5), God’s promise was fulfilled.

Let’s also consider our Messiah, Jesus. From the Old Testament, there were promises that a Messiah would come. It took many decades for the fulfillment of that prophecy, but in the end, He came, died, and resurrected on the third day for you.

God never gives empty promises; every word He speaks will always come to fruition. In fact, we see in scripture how much God honors His word even more than His name.

In our Bible verse today, we observe this comparison; Have you ever seen snow fall and then gradually rise back up into the heavens? Never. Or have you ever witnessed rain falling without wetting the ground? Never!

This is exactly how God’s words work—they will never return without fulfilling what they were sent to accomplish. Though they may tarry, His word will never return to Him empty, null, or void.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in Your promises. Remind me that Your words will never fail and will always come to fruition.
