“For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”~ Romans 14:17
Everyone belongs to one tribe or the other. Interestingly, through our way of life, at times it is easy to tell the tribe we belong to.
From the clothes we wear, the language we speak, the kind of food we choose to eat or geographical locations. It is easy to tell the community of people we belong to.
Mind you, culture goes beyond just your tribe but even your religion.
We have diverse kinds of religions and beliefs, and all of these religions have their various cultures.
Why or how so? You may wonder.
Well, simply because culture is the way of life of a group of people or a sect.
It is the manner in which people choose to live their lives – politically, geographically, socially, economically, etc. Most times with defining factors such as language, dressing, food, common ground laws they abide by, and overall approach to life.
This is all to say that even in the Kingdom of God, we have a culture.
That is what we call the Kingdom Culture.
Tracing it back to the scriptures, in the book of Acts 11:26, we see where the followers of Jesus were first tagged Christians in Antioch.
“And when he (Barnabas) had found him (Saul/Paul), he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.”
Why were they called Christians?
Simply put, the people saw a resemblance in the way the members of the church lived their lives with how Christ lived His life when here on earth. The similitude in language, mannerism, attitude, character, etc. was what made them see the church and name them Christians. Which means – to be like Christ.
This means that as Christians, there is a way of life we ought to align with. With Christ being our firstborn example, we ought to imitate the life that He lived here on earth.
A life that was absolutely yielded to the Father, one that was lived in accordance with the will of God. Hence why He is our firstborn example – that we may imitate Him and become more like Him on a daily basis.
Prayer: Lord, please reveal to me what it means to be a Christian.
