ETERNAL REWARDS

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”~ Mathew 6:19-21

A lot of us are familiar with this scripture, which reveals to us that there are treasures to be earned in heaven. But have you ever wondered or thought to yourself what these treasures are, and how they can be attained? For as the scripture says, where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

We all know that the treasures we lay for ourselves here on earth are only temporary, as not one of them will go beyond this earth. However, while on earth, it is possible to store up eternal treasures that will await our arrival in eternity.

How so? Through the works we do here on earth.

Scripture says in Revelation 22:12, “Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”

What then are these works? According to scripture, we have:

– The works of our life, as found in Ecclesiastes 12:14.

– The works of faith and obedience, as seen in James 2:17.

– The works done in service to God, as seen in 1 Corinthians 3:13–14.

– Our works in line with the use of our gifts, calling, and talents, as seen in Matthew 25.

All of these classify as the works which God is coming to judge on the last day.

This should serve to us as a sober reminder that the journey of Christianity does not end at the point of salvation alone. Even after salvation, there is work to be done, and those works have their rewards.

Just as the reward of sin is death, the reward of holiness and purity is eternal life, accomplished with treasures.

So, do you want to live your life in sin, accomplishing works that do not please the Father? Or would you like to live your life in faith and obedience to God, ensuring that all that concerns your life and the works of your hands are pleasing to Him?

Remember, there are treasures that transcend this earth, waiting for us in heaven.

Prayer: Lord, please help me to please you with my works.
