“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.” ~ Romans 8: 26
As believers, we must understand that the time spent in prayer is never wasted. When we pray, we make tremendous power available! The more we give ourselves to prayer, the more we are built up (Jude 1:20). Thus, we must continue to be zealous and fervent. We cannot afford to be lazy when it comes to prayer.
Elijah was human just as we are, yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! This implies that Elijah spent ample time in prayer. He gave himself to it—he didn’t relent—and we shouldn’t either. Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops. He made power available by praying.
We see a perfect example in Jesus too. Time after time, the Bible tells us that he took time away from the people and his disciples to spend with the Father. He even set a standard when speaking to his disciples in Matthew 26:40: “Could you not watch (pray) with me for one hour?”
Knowing how much the flesh resists prayer, he made provisions for us through the Holy Spirit, who quickens our mortal bodies and gives us the strength to remain steadfast in prayer. Remember Jesus spake a parable to them saying;
Men always ought to pray and not faint.
Prayer Point: Dear Jesus, give us the strength that we need to be ever zealous and fervent in the place of prayer. May we never get tired of praying. Amen.
