JOY IN ALL THINGS

When we hear the word joy, what comes to mind?
For some of us, we think it means happiness, excitement, or a feeling of pleasure. But when we take a deeper look, we realize that joy is none of those things.

Joy is a strong sense of peace, contentment, and confidence that is firmly rooted in God and His Word.
Let’s place strong emphasis on that phrase “rooted in God” because God alone has the capacity to give true joy.

Any feeling that seems like joy but is not rooted in God is not genuine joy. Why? Because that feeling is temporary. Only God can give joy that is lasting — not based on circumstances or external happenings.

Happiness, excitement, and similar emotions are temporary feelings of pleasure that arise from circumstances around us.
You get a new car or a house, and you’re excited — but only for a while. After a month, the excitement dies down. That’s what happiness looks like.

But joy, on the other hand, is completely different.
First of all, it is not bound by circumstances or situations. This means you can be joyful even in the death of a loved one, the loss of finances, or disappointing news from the doctor.

You can experience joy even in the worst situations of life. That’s because joy is deeply rooted in God — not in people, possessions, or events. The state of joy comes from being confident in God and in His faithfulness.
It is a peaceful assurance that comes from knowing who God is and trusting in the love He has for you.

We have been called to embrace joy in all things, just as our anchor Scripture tells us

“Rejoice always” — not in some situations, but in all.

May God help us as we continue to choose joy above all things.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18

Prayer: Lord, please help me embrace joy in all things.
