“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” ~ Mathew 5:16.
What Does It Actually Mean to Be the “Light of the World”?
To be the light of the world, there is one essential factor that must be present “good works”.
This means that a light shining without good works is not a light sponsored by the Holy Spirit.
But what do we mean by good works?
Many may think “good works” simply means giving to the poor, helping the needy, being a blessing to others, or supporting the house of God. While these are indeed noble and commendable acts, they do not fully define good works.
Good works can be seen in your daily conduct; being punctual at work, refusing to participate in bribery or corruption, and being recognized as an excellent and trustworthy staff member.
It is about being honest, showing integrity, and being diligent in your responsibilities.
Good works are reflected in how you treat people; being polite to customers, offering quality service and products, and keeping your promises.
It is showing up on time for meetings and delivering exactly what you said you would.
In essence, good works are woven into our everyday lifestyle.
How do you live your life at work or in the marketplace?
Can you be trusted with money?
Can you be trusted with sensitive information?
Can you be trusted to be diligent, efficient, and honest?
Can you be trusted with the lives of young men and women without taking advantage of them?
All these qualities make up what we call good works.
When people of the world see us as Christians, they should see something distinctly different in the way we live and work.
Through our actions, they should recognize that there is something uncommon about us, something that points them to our source: Jesus Christ, the Lord God Almighty.
Do men see Christ in you?
Prayer: Lord, help me live a life that represents you. That men may glorify you in Heaven.
