“Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltiness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.”~ Mark 9:50
Of what use is salt if it loses its saltiness?
Sadly, this is the state of many believers in the body of Christ today.
We—who ought to be the preservers of truth and godliness,
We—who ought to shine and live differently from the world,
We – who are meant to maintain our saltiness and make it evident that our lives are a reflection of Christ, have now unfortunately, mixed with the world in such a way that our saltiness has lost its value and use.
This is a call and a reminder for us to live as the salt of the earth, maintaining our distinctiveness in a world that constantly seeks to blur the lines between righteousness and compromise.
We are called to live in peace and righteousness, influencing others positively and pointing them to Christ.
When men see us, they should see Christ in us – in our words, our conduct, and our convictions.
Being the salt of the earth means:
– Refusing to lie or falsify records, even if it could lead to personal loss or punishment.
– Choosing not to participate in deceit, no matter the cost.
– Standing firm in the values of the Christian faith, even when it leads to rejection or isolation in the marketplace.
– Living in the world without adopting its corrupt systems or compromising the standards of Christ.
– It means holding firmly to our Christian faith, because, for some people, we might be the only reflection of Christ they will ever see.
It is because many have failed to keep their saltiness that unbelievers now label Christians with names and attributes that do not represent the person of Christ.
However, God is calling us back to Himself, to represent Him boldly as the salt of the earth. He is calling us to live in such a way that the world can look at us and see the kind of life He intended for humanity from the beginning: a life of purity, integrity, love, and truth.
Prayer: Lord, help me that through my life many come to the knowledge of you.
