THE LIFE OF OBEDIENCE – “HIS WILL NOT MINE”

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”~ Mathew 6:10

Have you ever stopped to think about how hard it must have been for Jesus to lay down His life for us? Can you take a moment to put yourself in His shoes?

Imagine enduring such immense torture and pain for a crime you didn’t commit, for something you were completely innocent of. Even the thought of it is overwhelming, isn’t it?

This is why Jesus, in His humanity, prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane: “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me” (Matthew 26:39). Yet, despite His anguish, He ended His prayer with complete submission: “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

Jesus understood that the will of the Father had to take precedence over His own.

Often, the will of God may seem uncomfortable to our flesh. Many times, His instructions don’t align with human reasoning or the wisdom of men. But the Bible reminds us that “the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight” (1 Corinthians 3:19).

When God gives us instructions, it might not make sense to the human reasoning. It could feel painful or require great sacrifice on our part. But in those moments, we must remember that His will is greater than ours. That He must increase, and we must decrease.

Jesus modeled this perfectly. He recognized that fulfilling the Father’s will was far more important than preserving His own comfort or desires. In the end, we see the glory that came from His obedience; salvation for all mankind.

This is a powerful reminder for us: no matter how challenging God’s will might seem, we can trust that His plans for us are always good, never evil (Jeremiah 29:11). His will may be difficult at the moment, but it will always lead to a greater purpose and glory.

Prayer: Lord, help me put your will above mine in every aspect of my life.
