OVERCOMING FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal”. – 2 Corinthians 4:18

Fear of the unknown is the inclination to be afraid of things for which we have little or no information and control. There are certain unique factors in our lives over which we may not be able to exert influence. Such factors could instill fear in us, as we worry about what may or may not come to pass.

At times, we are fearful of the unknown, the things not familiar to us, the obscured aspects of our lives, and even the parts of our life that seem unclear.

Guess what? The life Christ has called us to is one where we trust Him even without having a clear picture. Take Abraham, for instance; when he was asked to leave his parents’ house, he had no idea where he was headed, yet he obeyed the instructions of the Lord without concerning himself with trying to discern God’s plans for him.

How do we tackle the fear of the unknown? By placing our trust in the One who knows all things. If we are being led by a God who knows the beginning from the end, why should we be afraid?

We know that we are children of the Most High God, seated in heavenly places with Him. We know that we are heirs to God’s kingdom. He has given us dominion over all that exists. He lives in us, and we live in Him. We know that the plans Christ has for us are good and intended to give us hope and a future. We know whom we serve, and He knows us too. Glory to God!

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help us to fix our eyes on the things which we know in You. May the fear of the unknown have no hold on us, now and forevermore. Amen.
