“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” ~ 2 Corinthians 5:21
Have you ever been in a situation where you had a bill to pay, a loan hanging over your head, or a debt that needed to be cleared, and suddenly, someone stepped in and paid it all for you? Or maybe you’ve had your meal or groceries paid for by someone else unexpectedly. How did that make you feel?
Relieved? Grateful? Like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders?
In the same way, but on a far deeper, and eternal level, Jesus stepped in to pay a debt we could never afford. After the fall of man in the Garden, sin became the default nature of humanity. As a result, every man was cut off from having direct access to the Father, disconnected from the very source of life and righteousness.
There was a price to be paid, for that sin, and Scripture tells us plainly: “The wages of sin is death…” ~ Romans 6:23
But Jesus came and took upon Himself everything that separated us from God; our sins, our guilt, our shame, our broken past. He carried it all to the Cross and paid the ultimate price: death. He died in our place, settling the account once and for all. He satisfied the justice of God so that we could be declared righteous.
So now, when heaven looks at you, it doesn’t see your sin, it sees the righteousness of Christ covering you. The debt has been paid in full. You are no longer a sinner, no longer cut off, no longer bound. In Christ, your access to the Father has been fully restored.
Now you are seated with Him in heavenly places, far above principalities and powers, because you are in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). This is one of the greatest realities of our identity in Christ: We are no longer sinners, but sons of God, now fully accepted, fully redeemed, and fully empowered. All because we have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the righteousness that I now have in you.
