HOLY SPIRIT AND RIGHTEOUSNESS; KEEPING BELIEVERS ON THE PATH OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” ~ Galatians 5 vs 24.

The function of the Holy Spirit is to keep us believers on the right path until the day our Lord Jesus Christ comes to retrieve His bride. One of the ways He does this is by transforming us into a version of ourselves that is more Christlike.

Yes, we have gained the righteousness of God through faith by believing in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, but it doesn’t end there. Now, a significant challenge the body of Christ faces is the ideology of “Once saved, always saved.” This ideology perpetuates the misunderstanding that once you accept Christ, then it ends there. Sadly, it doesn’t, and this is where the Holy Spirit comes in.

After we accept the gift of Salvation, it is expected that we begin to work on ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit to mortify our flesh, allowing our spirit to take over, making us more Christlike. If we read Galatians 5 from verse 19 down to 26, we get to see the works of the flesh being discussed: sexual immorality, strife, jealousy, and much more. In these verses, there is a warning for those who engage in the works of the flesh, for they shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

On the other hand, it is expected that we adopt the Fruits of the Holy Spirit as seen in verse 22, some of which are love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, faithfulness, etc. Believers are to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit to stay on the path of righteousness consistently.

PRAYER: Father, help me yield to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
