OBEDIENCE IS COSTLY

“Jesus said to him, ‘If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.’ But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.”~ Mathew 19:21-22

How would you feel if God instructed you to part with all your prized possessions? All the money you’ve saved up, the properties you’ve worked your entire life to acquire. How would that make you feel?

The emotions you feel right now are likely similar to what the young man in this passage that Jesus was speaking to must have felt.

Obedience, as they say, is costly, but it is always better than sacrifice. We are called to live lives of obedience to the One to whom we are submitted. Many times, His requests may require great sacrifice, but obedience is always the best choice.

Remember, we are not only laying up treasures here on earth but also in heaven. One way to secure those heavenly treasures is by obeying the instructions of the Father, doing what He has asked us to do and taking the steps He wants us to take.

The best step we can take is to store up treasures in heaven first, because the treasures of this earth will ultimately fade away; vanity upon vanity.

Think about it: have you ever seen a dead person take their riches with them? Or carry their possessions away from the land of the living? What does that tell you? That the treasures of this earth are temporary, but the treasures of heaven are eternal.

Obeying God’s instructions may be difficult, but remember, it is not by your own strength; it is by the strength of God.

Prayer: Lord please give me the grace to obey you.
