Matthew 3:11, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.”
John speaking in Matthew 3:11 was referring to the coming of Jesus Christ, and how he would baptize with fire and the Holy ghost. Now, Jesus has come and has been risen to glory! He has given us the Holy Spirit as a comforter and helper. The fire of the Holy Spirit purifies us and sets us apart to become more like Christ, in all that we do.
The fire of the Holy Spirit could also be used to describe the presence or atmosphere of the Almighty God. Exodus 3 shares the story of Moses and the Burning Bush, where God appeared to Moses in the Fire. In Acts 2, the Fire of the Holy ghost came upon the believers, on the day of Pentecost, with great signs and wonders. This is for us to know how powerful fire of the Holy Spirit is.
As Christians, we require the fire of the Holy Spirit to function optimally, as we have been designed to. The fire quickens our mortal bodies, it fills us with power and the strength of God. The fire tests our faith and improves our level of endurance and patience.
Prayer Point: Holy Spirit, set us ablaze with Your fire, that we may be refined and purified to do good works. Amen.
