“For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong. He is the one who will build a house- a temple for my name. And I will secure his royal throne forever.” ~ 2 Samuel 7: 12-13

The verses highlighted above illustrate the promise that God made to David, as to how he was going to raise a mighty nation out of him. While there came a time in the history of Israel when the kingship title was taken away from the descendants of David, it certainly could not stop God’s promises from coming to pass.

The fulfillment of this promise came with the birth of Jesus, the savior of the world. Jesus came from the lineage of David; surely, it was not some sort of coincidence. It was God’s plan that had been made, since the very beginning of time. The king of the world, by whom all men are saved, came as the fulfillment of the promise that God had earlier made to a man after his own heart; David.

We see in scriptures that, when David heard the promise of God, he rejoiced. His responses to God’s promises were not doubts, fear, or worry. Instead, he praised God, who reigns over all that exist,

For God is the mighty being that makes covenant promises that always come to pass. How beautiful and glorious is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies!

We can learn from David; rejoice and be glad in the promises of God, praise him for he is worthy. For that which he said he will do, he has already done it. For all we await is a physical manifestation of his promises.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, give us the grace to be joyful and hopeful in the promises that You have made to us that our gaze remains fixed on them. Amen.
